There are four well-established Pipe and Cable-lay technologies used in the current market, Flex-lay, Reel-lay, J-lay, S-lay. The optimum solution to any laying challenge depends on a range of factors such as water depth, pipeline diameter and operating costs. IHC is one of only two companies in the world with experience across the whole range of technologies as well as being builder of special-purpose vessel platforms configured for pipe and cable-lay operations.
IHC EB can deliver high capacity Reel lay systems, working closely with clients to provide optimum pipelay performance often within challenging vessel constraints. IHC EB’s ability to deliver major systems is built upon its team of world-class, structural, mechanical, control systems and pipe straightening engineers.
IHC EB has been involved with the conceptual design of a number of J-lay systems and, working closely with its client Saipem, has delivered one of the world’s most versatile pipelay systems. The J-lay tower for the FDS2 is capable of deploying quad joints at line tensions of up to 1,500t and supporting catenary tensions of up to 2,000t at the hang off clamp.
IHC EB S-lay systems provide precise control of the product through the use of variable speed drives and synchronisation of line up buggies and tensioners during the laying process. Safe and efficient operations are achieved through the use of an integrated control and monitoring system with automatic interlocks.
IHC EB designs and builds offshore carousels for the spooling and storage of power cables, umbilical’s, rigid and flexible products. Incorporating innovative features, these handling solutions are designed to suit client’s individual requirements and have an excellent track record of safe, reliable and rapid installation of products.
In addition to the design and supply of turnkey engineering solutions, IHC EB is ready to assist its clients in modifying or enhancing their existing equipment spreads. When new sub systems or project specific modifications are required, IHC EB can use its experience and expertise to deliver individual system elements.
